I often get asked the age-old question, "Will I get more money for my home if I renovate it before I sell it?" 

So, what is the answer? Would you really get more money for the sale of your home if you renovated it first? We can start with, "Do you have the money to invest in doing that right now?" That could automatically answer the question. If you are wondering whether it would be worth it or if you should renovate or add an addition to your home before you sell it, this episode is for you.

Two weeks ago, I started to talk about the 3 Ethnic Furniture Styles. We’ve touched on the Country French and Bohemian furniture styles. Today, I will talk about the Oriental Furniture Style, sometimes called the Asian Furniture Style. This refers to furnishings that originated in the continent of Asia. This Oriental Style has a classic, timeless appeal and will never go out of style.

Are you an adventurous, free-spirit person? One who does not like or want rules, and is drawn to items that are unusual and cool. Do you love collecting unconventional, unusual, thought-provoking items from your travels? If you do, chances are, you may be a bohemian person. And that you may want the bohemian style in your home.

Bohemian style is also called Boho. Those two terms are used interchangeably. If you want to learn more about the wonderfully beautiful, exciting, and carefree Bohemian style, this episode is for you.

I am so excited to you start another furniture style category, and so the next 3 episodes will be about 3 Ethnic Furniture Styles. In talking about these ethnic styles, you may be from somewhere else in the world and want touches of your country in your home. It can bring comfort, add familiarity and represent a part of who you are at your core…

Or you may just love and feel drawn to the French, Bohemian, or Oriental style or items from your own country.

The Mid-Century Modern furniture style is characterized by its clean lines, minimal decorations, bold colors,  gentle curves, and organic shapes. This style originated in World War II to the mid-20th century -  hence its name.

Thanks to its elegant simplicity and timeless aesthetic, Mid-Century Modern furniture is still highly popular in contemporary or modern interior design. If this simple style appeals to you, keep listening to learn more.

Classic industrial style strives to bring the look of an industrial building into a home with high ceilings, exposed brick and beams, and metal accents. Perfectly suited to spaces like converted factories and rustic lofts, this style is all about creating a streamlined sophisticated design with mixed materials.

So if you are attracted to a furniture style that contrasts modernity and sophistication with rustic elements from the past, this episode is for you.

I have been doing a series of episodes introducing the 12 major furniture styles on the market today. Most of them are not trends but rather shapes, textures, and lines that you like. You choose one, two, or three (at most) of the styles for your home, which you can blend together. This blend of styles creates a whole new style called an Eclectic Style. Once you choose the styles you love, this tells you which ones to shop for and eliminates all the rest. It eliminates all of the other thousands of furniture choices. 

You will find the furniture series very helpful in establishing your favorite style or styles, making shopping for interior furnishings much easier. 

Today’s episode is about a very minimalist style which I call the Executive Efficient Style. This is all about clean lines, organization, efficiency, and, of course, convenience. I believe that luxury is available to all of us because luxury is a state of mind. It can be subjective to each individual.

Luxury is not only about money, although as we all know it can be it's not as much about money as it is about your comfort level. What is a luxury to one person may be way overdone for another.

On any budget, luxury can be a condition of abundance, great ease, comfort, and elegance. I like this definition because it truly applies to all of us, no matter our financial situation.

One of the biggest design secrets of all is not really a secret. It is not done by many people. It is the interior design plan.  Every great interior has a great interior design plan.

We are fine with architectural plans. We are fine with building and construction plans. But I believe an interior design plan should also be included before the building is constructed. I can assure you, there was an interior design plan that was thought out, drawn-out, written out, budgeted, and then implemented by the team or construction crew.
