5 Stunning Rugs Perfect For Any Space
Faith Led Interior Design Show | Episode 25
Area Rugs have been made and traded since biblical times. The Bible mentions wonderful products and the people were merchants in all sorts of things. They manufactured clothes in blue, beautiful embroidered work, and chests of rich apparel. Items made with textiles, yarns, and products made of cedar and other woods were among their merchandise. Obviously, we have come a long way.
These area rugs come in all sizes, shapes, and prices. Today on the show, I share with you 5 of my favorite types of area rugs to use in today’s home. I have some fabulous suggestions for which area rug to choose for your room. There have been many strides made in the last few years to have beautiful, very rich-looking area rugs for fabulous prices. I always love when you can get this luxurious rug look for great prices. So, if you have been looking for rugs to go with the interior of your home, this episode is for you.

Types of Area Rugs
Hard surface flooring is still all the rage. Unfortunately, it can come off as cold and uninviting. Area rugs to the rescue! They add a welcoming touch of softness and coziness to your room.
There are many types of area rugs. To name a few, there are:
Hand-knotted
Usually wool and literally knotted by hand. Usually of the highest quality and very long-lasting. The quality varies by knots per square inch.
Hand-tufted
A hand-tufted rug will have a canvas backing glued to the back of the rug. Whilst the back of hand-knotted rugs will be a translation of the front side of the rug in tapestry style stitches. You can see each individual knot on hand-knotted rugs on the reverse side and be able to count the knots per square inch.
Flatweave, Kilim, or Dhurrie
Beautiful flat woven rugs are usually made of wool and because of their weave, completely reversible. Kilim rugs were traditionally boldly colored and had geometric patterns, while Dhurries were more pastel and tended toward more flowing stylized designs.
Handloom
Handloom rugs are made on a loom with a shuttle. Once the row is complete, the rod is hammered tightly against the row below. The weaver then cuts the yarns along the rod, creating the pile.
Machine-made
The edge finishing of a rug can also tell you the difference between a handmade and a machine-made rug. If you see any type of binding or surging used, then you are looking at a machine-made rug, and on the other hand, if there are no stitches visible then it's a handmade rug.
Hooked Rugs
Hooked rugs are created by pulling loops of fabric or yarn through a firm woven base such as linen, burlap, or rug wrap. These rugs may feature both simple and complex designs ranging from uncomplicated geometric shapes to complex bird and tree designs.
Hide Rugs
A Cowhide Rug is a cow's complete skin and hair, cured using either a chrome tanning method or by the more environmentally friendly, vegetable tanning process used by MAHI. The result is a soft durable rug that retains the unique markings of the animal, although sometimes hides are re-dyed to create exotic prints and colors.
Braided Rugs
These rugs can be made with cloth, wool, or cotton, or the more contemporary type would be sisal, jute, seagrass, or abaca.
5 Stunning Rugs Perfect For Any Space
Often, an area rug is the launch point of your color palette and ties the whole look together. In open-concept spaces, area rugs are great for creating zones. Whether you are using area rugs for style, comfort, or to tie the look together, they are usually the hit of the room. Here are 5 of my favorite, beautiful options…
1. Geo 9' x 12' Area Rug
2. Grids 10' x 14' Area Rug
3. Modern Cowhide Brown
4. Handmade Trellis Gray/ Ivory Area Rug (9'X12')
5. Natural Border Gray/ Tan Area Rug (9'X12')
Area rugs can sway the look of a room dramatically! They can make a home look bigger or smaller. If you are trying to add a statement, warmth, coziness, color, or texture, area rugs certainly do the trick. A space can be cold, drab, and dull without an area rug and transformed at once to warm, beautiful and cozy. Area rugs are great investment pieces.
