Be Blessed Verse
This week’s verse is Matthew 6:25-27
It says, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?"
3 Ways Your Kitchen Project Could Solve Your Clutter Problem with More Storage
The kitchen is arguably the most important room in the house.
It's where family and friends gather to celebrate and where a lot of time is spent cooking and preparing meals.
Whether you are a busy mom with young kids or a career-driven woman who loves to entertain, having ample storage in your kitchen is essential.
And it is essential to have adequate storage space to keep the kitchen organized and clutter-free.
As a professional in the home design industry, I have worked with countless clients who always ask me the same question: How can I get more storage in my kitchen?
I have always said when designing, that you can never have too much storage space.
It seems to always be needed and for busy families, having ample kitchen storage space is essential for daily functioning.
No matter what your opinion is on storage space, there is no denying that having more of it often leads to a more organized, efficient, and enjoyable cooking experience.
As a kitchen design expert, I know firsthand that there is always room for improvement when it comes to maximizing storage space in the kitchen.
However, it's crucial to make sure it's strategized in a way that makes sense for your lifestyle.
Tip #1: Enhance Storage by Extending Your Cabinets to the Ceiling
Extend your cabinets to the ceiling.
Yes, you heard me right!
By taking your cabinets from the floor to the ceiling, you will achieve a more modern and sleek look, making your room look bigger and more impressive. This also makes your ceilings appear taller, and of course, gains valuable storage space.
When it comes to storage in the kitchen, cabinets are key. However, standard cabinets only reach a certain height, leaving ample space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling.
And so, my first tip is to extend your cabinets all the way up to the ceiling for an upgraded and modern look.
One of my clients is doing this right now. And I really believe that one of the best ways to maximize kitchen storage is by extending your cabinets from the floor to the ceiling.
Doing so not only looks more up-to-date but also makes the ceiling appear taller.
Additionally, it adds more space for storage, making it an ideal solution for storing those occasional-use items like your good china or specialty machines that can accumulate over time.
Installing upper cabinets eliminates the need for complicated dusting and cleaning and provides a wealth of kitchen storage.
So we are adding glass to a few strategically placed doors for pretty storage. These glass front cabinets will be backlit, adding illumination, interest, and beauty.
Tip #3: Install an Island with Hidden Storage to Hold Your Essentials
If you have ample space in your kitchen, an island with storage is a must-have.
Even two islands are great if you have the room and it is designed to function well.
A well-used island is not only the hub for social gatherings and food prep but also the perfect space to add extra storage.
Island storage is ideal for adding functionality by storing everyday cooking essentials, spices, and small appliances.
This makes searching easier, and the kitchen is well-arranged.
An island is not only for functional seating and food prep but just as crucial for adding storage space to the kitchen, to the front, back, or sides of the island.
Depending on your kitchen plan, an island can be blended with multifunctional storage solutions like custom cabinetry, shelving, display areas, wine refrigerators, drawer microwaves, and the ideas are endless.
Not only will it provide valuable storage space, but it also serves as a great area for added functional seating and food prep for your cooking pleasure.
Kitchen islands vary in shape and size, often serving as multi-functional spaces with sinks and dishwashers installed. Undoubtedly, the added countertop space provided by an island is fantastic!
Bonus Tip: Use Drawers, Not Doors for Lower Cabinetry
Last but not least, always opt for drawers, not doors, for your lower cabinetry.
If you're not already a believer in using drawers for your lower cabinets, it's time to make the switch.
Choosing drawers over doors for lower cabinets is a game-changer when it comes to kitchen storage.
Pull-out drawers are more efficient and organized than doors. Drawers make it simpler to reach the back of cabinets to boost accessibility and organization.
Plus, additional drawer dividers and inserts provide an easy-to-use and customizable solution to keep all your kitchen supplies organized.
Realistically nobody wants to spend time on their knees searching for an item they need. By using drawers, you can utilize all the available storage, thereby saving time and frustration.
